Delta Projects

Urban Native Greens

Our Goals
Promote Black-led urban gardening using native plants that support birds, pollinators, and community wellness in Southern cities.
What We’re Doing
We provide native plant education, build urban gardens, and partner with Black farmers and community leaders to advance bird-friendly, sustainable practices.

Urban Native Greens is an ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Delta initiative that connects people, plants, and birds in Southern cities. By focusing on native plants, the program empowers Black farmers, gardeners, and communities to create spaces that restore ecosystems while providing fresh, healthy food and green oases in urban landscapes.

̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Delta works alongside community partners to host workshops, distribute native plants, and design urban gardens that attract pollinators and birds. These gardens support species like hummingbirds, buntings, and warblers, while also providing habitat for butterflies and bees. Importantly, the project builds on cultural and historical traditions of Black farming, honoring resilience and promoting food sovereignty.

By placing people at the heart of conservation, Urban Native Greens embodies ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡â€™s vision of equity-centered environmental work. It highlights how community-led efforts can create healthier neighborhoods, increase climate resilience, and contribute to bird conservation across the hemisphere.
