Birds of Rio Salado

Learn about some of the local and migratory bird species

Experience Year-Round Birding at Rio Salado

Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area is home to over 200 bird and other wildlife species, from tiny hummingbirds to camouflaged towhees. The habitat provides critical homes for year-round residents and nearly 100 migratory birds that rely on the wetlands, mesquite bosque, and cottonwood–willow forest for food, shelter, and nesting.

The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center invites visitors to explore this urban oasis through guided bird walks, wildlife programs, and hands-on conservation. Public trails and observation areas provide up-close opportunities to see birds in their natural habitats, learn about their behaviors, and connect with the desert river ecosystem that sustains them and us.
